Where Are The Wild Things?

6x4-carol-max-swing-drawing The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) has teamed up with the movie Where The Wild Things Are to bring nature back into the lives of children. Particularly in urban areas like New York, children do not spend enough time in natural environments such as parks and backyards. Children are spending half as much time outdoors as they did twenty years ago, and that number is continually decreasing. Why be out there? The negative impact of declining interest in outdoor activities of kids can be seen through an increase of health problems like obesity and decrease in creative and social skills. NWF is working to promote getting kids outdoors to increase their health, environmental stewardship, and imagination. As National Wildlife Week approaches, take some time to educate yourselves and  the children closest to you about the nature of childhood. Then go for a walk, build a sandcastle, or watch for birds. When you get back indoors, sign the Be Out There Pledge and enter for your chance to win a Where The Wild Things Are DVD.
