A Holiday Dinner You Can Feel Good About

One of the simplest steps you can take to help protect the planet is to buy products that are produced in your own community.

Buying local also means buying in season. For most of the country the traditional Thanksgiving meal is a perfect example of a seasonal meal. But in today's age of food transit the pumpkins in your local grocery store might not be local.

EarthShareNY has a few tips and facts to help you keep your Thanksgiving dinner table local and seasonal. You can also check out ESNY’s newest member, the Agricultural Stewardship Associate to find more benefits of protecting our community farmland.

According to the Natural Resources Defense Council most Americans don’t realize how far their food traveled before being landing on the grocery store shelf. “Trucking, shipping and flying in food from around the country and the globe takes a toll on the environment and on public health…The way we eat has an enormous impact on the health of the planet. By choosing to eat lower on the food chain, and focusing on local and organic produce, we can curb global warming and air pollution, avoid toxic pesticides, support local farmers and enjoy fresh, tasty food.”

Local Harvest and Seasonal Table are also great resource to help you find a local farm  and plan season meals  this holiday season. Here are some great tips to contribute to your meal-planning this fall. Bon Appetit!
